about

About the song, from Byron:

Back again but in in this song, but in a different line-up, Tyler doing all the Lead and Harmony Vocals, Graham on Drum Kit, Ciara on Bass Guitar, and Marta on Percussion. But I digress. There's so much I want to say about these incredible talents. Soon on our website we will have some fun background info and links to their music.

This song was added near the end of the recording sessions for the album. I was back living off grid, recording on solar power, and away from Larry's studio and drums. I had some drum tracks, but Larry encouraged me to get some real drums and percussion.

This song has a Spanish flavor. It was written on a Spanish guitar. And now we have Marta from Spain on Percussion. But I digress. This is the love ballad of the album. And yet, some song lyrics may have more than one meaning, or be interpreted by the listener. To me this song is not just about a person you love and miss, although I'm sure that is the common perception. To me the lyrics were about something I felt meditating, contemplating, searching, craving, and waiting ... for a different type of ecstasy, one that can be elusive. But that's just me. It's a love ballad to most everyone else.

At one time, decades ago, I thought this song would never be finished. It was originally just a classical guitar finger picking melody and bass line, no words. Later, on an little cassette tape recorder I recorded a Hammond-organ beat and a crappy-sounding flute and, ahem, strings. Then I sang these same words that Tyler sings here.

The sounds captured were so horrible that I went back to just guitar, no words. I tried again once with all new, different lyrics. Hated it. Then the song was back to being and instrumental. This song was going to be the only instrumental on the album, no vocals. It was partially recorded. Then one day I imagined what the song would sound like with Tyler V singing. I could hear it in my head. I had no doubt she would be perfect for this song.

Wow, lyrics again after all these years of waiting... for this song about waiting... to at last come to life! I once read that Paul McCartney said that re-writing is a key to songwriting. I'm glad I stayed open minded for this song to become more beautiful.

I was so tempted to sing along and add more harmonies. But I felt that Tyler's interpretation was so awesome, so perfect in every way, it just felt right to be her song alone.

A long time ago I had a 4-piece cover band called Secret Agent. We performed 48 weeks per year, usually 6 nights per week, for 4–45-minute sets... or sometimes 5! Great practice. Anyway, all 4 members sang lead and harmony, to split up the singing load, and it made the singers happy. My booking agent Bobby Lee once said to me, “Surround yourself with GOOD singers.” My interpretation... “Your singing is okay, but not really stellar like a Steve Perry that stops people in their tracks, so try to get really great singers.” Well Bobby, I'm still taking your advice. And you were always telling me to get a girl lead singer up front. Here ya' go... eight of them on one album!

Harmony Dreamers is a studio project of prolific songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Byron Lee Scott, along with long-time band mate and drummer Larry Dragland. On each song are a host of top-tier vocalists and musicians from around the world, including more than 20 international backup singers on the humorous title track, I Come From Earth. It's all new music, happening now.

Koji is amazing, and later we will add more ways for you to interact, make videos for our songs, and who knows what other shenanigans.

Enjoy Life

lyrics

When we're together it's ecstasy
When we're apart do you think of me
When it's over, when you take me home
And I'm all alone, again, I miss you

Do what you want to me, I won't mind
Who knows the treasure that we might find
Together, we could make it through
but it's up to you
I'm only waiting for you

You light the fire inside my soul
You keep my heart warm when things grow cold
There is nothing I would rather do
Than to be with you
I'm only waiting for you

When we're together it's ecstasy
When we're apart do you think of me
There is nothing, I would rather do
Than to be with you
I'm only waiting for you...
(Guitar melody)
I'm only waiting for you...
