about

About Spinning 'round the Sun, from Byron: These past years during Covid, many people lost their lifestyles, including many entertainers. My travel plans all canceled, so I bought a travel trailer, or caravan as some call it, set up a studio inside it, and learned to live quite comfortably, if simply, off grid on propane and solar power. All my parts on most of this album were recorded in that mobile studio using only solar power. Nevertheless, I had it pretty easy compared to many. I was escaping cold weather, following the Sun. Every day I sat in my doorway for a time, soaking in the Arizona Sun rays.

SPINNING ROUND THE SUN Part 1 was written in just 3 or 4 minutes. One of my favorite musicians, Jan Hammer, inspired this song in a rather unusual way. I bought a new guitar gadget and was going to try it out. This thing converts what you play on guitar to midi – which means you can play any synthesizer sound from your guitar instead of a keyboard... piano, cellos, electronic synthesizers, any sound... all from the guitar. Cool eh? (That gizmo is called a Fishman Triple Play for you gadget geeks like me) So, I'm sitting in my doorway in the Sun, never played the gizmo, wondering what song to play and what sound to use. I started thinking about a chord that I heard Jan Hammer play once, just a passing chord, that gave me chills, so I had to find out where that chord fits harmonically, it was so beautiful to me. I wanted to use that chord someday was all I thought. I turned on the new guitar synth for the first time and started looking through names of sounds. I saw a synth sound preset named something like JansHammer. I then decided not to play an older original but write something new. Sitting there in the Sun, it just came out in about 2 minutes, unplanned whatsoever, just started playing … the chords, the melody, and the guitar synth sound you hear on Part 1, and later on Part 3, those parts have not changed since that day.

This was the first song I worked with Anna V on vocals. I wanted to see how we blended singing octaves apart, same melodies. She's on five songs this first album, so you know I loved her voice, from the time I heard her sing on a demo song. I gave her freedom to add background layers or anything. I was impressed she decided to keep it simple. She makes up for that in Part 2 though, wow. More on that momentarily.

I always felt locked into Larry's drumming. His grooves just make time flow by a lot more sweetly. Having said that, I think this song really captures some of his best playing. On top of that, his drum accents are fascinating on this song, really great drumming.

SPINNING ROUND THE SUN Part 2 has been called a cinematic mood piece that takes you places. When I wrote this, I had an idea where it would go, but not exactly. I sat down and listened to one of my favorite albums in its entirety, just listening to the way they build a song. Then I sat down and arranged the entire song. The album I'm referring to is from a group called Automatic Man. It was the first of two albums and I've listened to it a million times. I played all the parts on Part 2, along with Larry's drumming.

Anna mentioned doing cinematic vocals, so it seemed natural as she was singing on Part 1. She spent about a week just listening. I gave her a melody that we sing with the cellos, but all the improvising is her doing. I'm still amazed, she has such an ear for harmony.

People ask about the sounds in the chanting section of Part 2. It's tuned kettle drums and three-part bass vocals, along with bongos, congas, tambourine, and other percussion.

Harmony Dreamers. It's all new music, happening now.

lyrics

Sunny days … feel the rays

Spinning 'round the Sun
round and round
as time goes
Spinning 'round the Sun
Light shines for everyone

See the Sun … you are one

Spinning 'round the Sun
round and round
as time goes
Spinning 'round the Sun
Life shines for everyone

This is your time
Let your love shine
everyone
under the Sun

Spinning 'round the Sun
Love shines for everyone

about

Harmony Dreamers Las Vegas, Nevada

Harmony Dreamers is an extraordinary group of musicians and singers from around the world.

The music is heavily guitar and synthesizer based. On various songs, there are orchestrations, a vibraphone, a clarinet, and sound effects.

Scott sings all the male vocals, along with seven female vocalists, chosen to fit each song, and as you might expect, the vocal harmonies are most interesting.
