about

About the song, from Byron:

This tune is really about being free to choose and make a change. It's an upbeat, moving song about going to start a new chapter, or to experience something new. It's about looking forward to it, loving the feeling of movement and adventure... things to come. The vocals are very easy, relaxed, slow, while the music moves. Changes can be stressful, but they can also be joyful, exciting, filled with eager anticipation. And to me the feeling of moving, being alone, like in a car or on a bicycle for example, eases the mind somehow.

I chose Andrea's vocals because of her beautiful tones, great harmonizing, her ability to hold a note a long time and sound great, and her range is very wide, able to go just a little lower than many singers and I needed those bottom notes. It's funny that the song is about change and moving, because Andrea had just accepted a gig when we were about to record and had to move everything from Nashville to Dollywood. So, she was moving, changing, and listening to the song. Then she had 3 weeks of intense rehearsals to learn her show, and in the process got her voice in top shape for my sessions. I asked her to tell Dolly thanks for warming up your voice LoL. She does all the female vocals and harmonies in this song. I just found out that Andrea got married a few days ago. I guess moving to a new place turned out to be full of surprises. Congratulations Andrea!

Larry on drum kit and Nick on bass... this song is tight, with some very cool drum and bass fills! This was Nick's second tune on bass after the title track. The sound is a fretless electric bass guitar. Nick is an amazing player.

Once again, the bell-like synth is an old Emax keyboard synth track, salvaged from the old analog first recording of this song years ago. The rest of the track is new. The other synths were played using a guitar synthesizer.

This album project connected me with very passionate, professional musicians around the world. We are friends, regardless of any differences. Of the people making music on this song, three of us are living in USA, comfortable enough the three of us, and fortunate. Now when I listen to these songs I think of the ones on the other side of the world, wonder how they are doing. Nick is in Ukraine, his home country. I sometimes wonder what it's like for him. The conflict there has a personal connection now. When I first was working with Anna in Russia, our singer on five songs, at that time there was no conflict. Later when it began, I told her I have not watched the news except basic headlines but have been so focused on recording. I asked her how she is doing. She said, “I'm also not watching much news, just doing music and living.”

lyrics

Freeway... take me away...
find a new day... oh, freeway

Going somewhere... far, far away...
got to find a new day

So Freeway... take me away...
find a new day... oh, freeway

Freeway take me away... find a new day...
oh, freeway... take me away

Freeway... the more she unwinds...
Freeway... she eases my mind

Keyboard Solo to Verse and Bridge 1

Going somewhere... far, far away...
got to find a new day

So Freeway... take me away...
find a new day... oh, freeway

Freeway take me away... find a new day...
oh, freeway... take me away

Harmony Dreamers is an extraordinary group of musicians and singers from around the world.

The music is heavily guitar and synthesizer based. On various songs, there are orchestrations, a vibraphone, a clarinet, and sound effects.

Scott sings all the male vocals, along with seven female vocalists, chosen to fit each song, and as you might expect, the vocal harmonies are most interesting.
